This story really saddens me. This is where the law and who people are as individuals, get sticky. First of all, after being attacked physically and verbally, I think it is self defense for her to defend herself from her attackers. A man died, but he attacked her first. Second, her attackers were white, she’s black. There’s another issue there and I’m sure it played a role in the case. Then third, because she’s not post-op, in the eyes of the law she is still a man. I wish she didn’t have to take the plea deal, and was then found not guilty. I hate to see this happen to her. What bothers me even more is that she may be attacked everyday for the next three years of her life by the men in prison. I’m sure the guards won’t protect her. There should be at least another area of the prison where they house these types of inmates. I wish this whole situation would have been different for her.
